What it is: The high grade Solution is 70% Granular Calcium Hypochlorite, there are no stabilizers or other chemicals.

This product is NOT Chlorine Dioxide it is Calcium Hypochlorite as recommended by FEMA for water disinfection and is not recommended for any other use!

If it is 70% Calcium Hypochlorite what is the other 30%?: Calcium Hypochlorite granules are made by exposing Calcium Carbonate (think limestone,marble & tums!) to Chlorine gas which is derived primarily from Electrolysis of ordinary Salt (NaCl), the resulting compound has varying degrees of concentration typically ranging from 50 to 73% the remainder is primarily unreacted Calcium Carbonate and Sodium

Why 70%: 70% is one of the higher concentrations that is readily available and economical, higher concentrations are less economical and less consistently available

Why Calcium Hypochlorite?: This is the product recommended for storage by FEMA and many other sources, it is cost effective, stores indefinitely and is easy and safe to use

Any storage precautions?: Store in a dry location where product will not be exposed to excessive sunlight or high heat. Chlorine gas is corrosive, so do not store in an enclosed space where it will be exposed to metal, other chemicals, electronics or food stuffs.

This auction is for 1lb of 70% Calcium Hypochlorite Granules which are packaged in New 16oz. HDPE Screwtop Jar with an induction sealed cap and plastic lid, a Waterproof Instruction Label and sealed in a New Mylar and Aluminum Pouch which is Heat Sealed and has a resealable zip type closure. The waterproof laser label, insures that the instructions will be available when needed, heat induction seal and the heat sealed mylar package, assists in maintaining the long term integrity of the chemical. This item is intended to be stored long term (there is no expiration date as long as stored in a cool dry place) and be ready in an emergency.  Calcium Hypochlorite provides many advantages over liquid bleach, namely you do not have to rotate it yearly as is necessary with liquid bleach (due to loss of potency).  Package should be stored in a cool dry place for maximum long term potency and the 6 mil poly seal bag helps insure that it will remain fresh & dry until you need it .  Additionally this 1 pound bottle package will treat approximately 10,000 gallons of clear water or 5,000 of cloudy water, so it represents a great value.  I have taken great care in researching and providing this item, and I rely on it myself, for more information you may google “calcium hypochlorite water purification”.

1lb of this Powder will also make over 400 Gallons of 200ppm (parts per million) sanitizing solution – instructions are on the label (see label below)

The actual dosage rate is not particularly critical, too much chlorine in water merely gives it a heavy chlorine smell and taste. It is OK to just let the chlorine naturally dissipate before use.

The waterproof label reads exactly as follows:

Contents will treat up to 10,000 Gallons

Directions for use:

  1. Dissolve 1 Teaspoon (5.5 grams) into 1 Gallon of Water to make a stock chlorine solution (about 1000 ppm) – store in airtight container & discard solution after 1 month as it will gradually lose potency (do not drink this solution!)
  2. To Treat Drinking water – add 1.5 oz (3Tbsp.) of stock chlorine solution to each gallon of water being treated (about 12 ppm) Allow mixture to sit for ½ hour before use
  3. To use for Sanitizing – add 1 Quart stock chlorine solution to 1 Gallon of Water (1:4 Mix) for a 200ppm sanitizing solution
