Shop PartsA solvent trap is a firearm cleaning accessory that captures solvent and debris during barrel maintenance. Instead of dripping onto your bench, dirty fluid is funneled into the trap, protecting your workspace and gear. Choose the correct thread adapter to match your barrel for a secure fit.
It captures solvent and fouling during cleaning so your work area stays clean.
Match your barrel’s thread pitch (e.g., 1/2×28 or 5/8×24) to the adapter. If unsure, check your firearm manual or consult a gunsmith.
Aluminum offers great value and low weight. Titanium gives top strength-to-weight and long-term durability.

A solvent trap is a firearm cleaning accessory designed to catch solvent and debris during routine barrel maintenance. When used for its intended purpose — keeping your bench, gear, and environment clean — a solvent trap is legal to own and use in the United States.
A solvent trap becomes illegal if it is modified into a suppressor or silencer without proper ATF authorization. Any machining, drilling, or alteration that converts a solvent trap into a device intended to reduce firearm sound makes it a regulated item under the National Firearms Act (NFA).
To legally convert a solvent trap into a suppressor, you must first file an ATF Form 1, pay the $200 tax stamp, and receive approval before making any modifications. Without this step, possession of a modified solvent trap is a felony offense.
In 2025, federal law still regulates solvent trap modifications under the NFA. While it is legal to buy, sell, and own solvent trap kits for cleaning, states may have additional restrictions. Always verify your state and local firearm laws before purchasing. Some states impose stricter rules on solvent traps, suppressor parts, and related accessories.
Solvent traps are 100% legal when used as cleaning tools. Freedom Gear offers aluminum and titanium
solvent trap kits, cups, adapters, and end caps built specifically for firearm maintenance.
Important: Modifying a solvent trap into a suppressor without an approved ATF Form 1
is a violation of federal law. Always use solvent traps responsibly, and check all federal, state, and local
regulations before purchase or modification.
